2011 Leadership Class Description
What is Leadership Owasso?
Leadership Owasso is a community based leadership program designed to increase the participant’s knowledge of, commitment to, and involvement in Owasso, the City Without Limits.
Benefits of the Program?
You will grow personally. Through the development of personal leadership plans and the support of your small group, participants will discover their leadership potential and gain new insights into themselves as individuals.
You will learn. We can guarantee that every participant will increase his/her knowledge of the Owasso community, no matter how long you have lived here. The scope of Leadership Owasso will engage you in new ideas.
You will meet new people –business and community leaders. You will get to know your classmates well and form lifelong friendships and community partners. You will also be interacting with dignitaries from around the state.
You will gain new perspectives. Participants are selected for their diversity of experiences, therefore, you will hear perspectives that are deeply felt, strongly supported, and perhaps different from your own. You will have many opportunities to share your experiences and beliefs with others who have not heard your voice before.
You will reinforce and energize your commitment to community service. As a result of Leadership Owasso, you will be considerably more effective in your business and community work.
Program Commitment.
You have to want to participate in Leadership Owasso. All participants are incredibly busy people from all walks of life. Your application indicates your commitment to attend and participate in all classes.
You have to be able to participate. Attendance at the orientation and the final class is mandatory. Participants must attend each class in its entirety. You may miss no more than one class during the year in order to successfully complete the program.
Program Schedule for the Class of 2011
Leadership Owasso participants begin their program with an orientation seminar that will provide a general history of Owasso, as well as promote teambuilding. Monthly sessions explore important community issues with community leaders and include tours of facilities around Owasso. With the Owasso area as the classroom, participants are exposed to local, as well as regional issues pertaining to education, economic development, quality of life, and governmental affairs. In addition, Leadership Owasso will encourage “hands-on” experience through volunteerism in the community.

Local Education --October 12, 2010--1:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Regional Education-- November 9, 2010--1:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Quality of Life Tour--December 14, 2010--1:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Local Economic Development --January 11, 2011--1:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Regional Economic Development-- February 15, 2011--1:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Local Government--March 15, 2011--1:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Regional Government--April 12, 2011-1:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Celebration-- May 10, 2011-All Day

Application Process
Complete the enclosed application and return it to the Owasso Chamber of Commerce, 315 S. Cedar, Owasso, OK 74055. Applications must be postmarked by August 20, 2010. Applications are available at www.owassochamber.com or at the Owasso Chamber of Commerce.
Tuition and Tuition Assistance
Tuition is $495 and must be paid in full on or before September 14, 2010. Tuition will cover all of your program materials and meals. Employers may pay, or help pay, tuition for participants.

CRITERIA FOR PARTICIPANT SELECTION
SELECTION CRITERIA – The most important factor in Leadership Owasso’s selection process is the identification of those individuals most likely to use their newly developed leadership skills for the long-term benefit of the community. Leadership Owasso selects individuals who desire to enhance their knowledge of Owasso and actively participate in its future. Participants must posses a sincere desire to serve their community. In addition, participants are selected to represent the diversity of the Owasso community. Factors considered in the selection process include:
• Organizational Leadership - Past, present, and potential leadership roles in organizations.
• Community Involvement – Past, present, or desired future involvement in elective or volunteer capacities.
• Motivation – An individual’s level of motivation to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by Leadership Owasso and remain active as a Leadership Owasso member.
• Time Commitment – Ability and interest to complete the Leadership Owasso program and to contribute to the Owasso community in the future.
Our selection committee will review your application against the above criteria as demonstrated by your essay responses and your letters of recommendation. The selection committee considers only those items included in your application, so there is no benefit to having additional calls of support placed on your behalf.
Class size is limited to 16 students. If you are not selected you are strongly encouraged to re-apply next year.
